Corporate responsibility
Our responsibility
As a responsible business, we’re passionate about making a positive contribution to the world we live in. Whether through our charity work, our ESG policies or our bold environmental targets, we’re determined to help build a better future for our colleagues, clients and communities. Take a look at our social value and sustainability policy to learn more.
At the top of our agenda right now is the plan we’re putting in place to help create a cleaner, more sustainable planet. We have set ourselves the ambitious yet achievable goal of reaching net zero by 2045 – learn more about how we’ll get there in our Environmental Impact Report. For a shorter, more succinct overview that follows the industry-agreed format, view our Carbon Reduction Plan.
Our approach
For our people
Our people are at the heart of our corporate responsibility programme and we support their charitable efforts through our matched giving, payroll giving and volunteering initiatives:
- Matched giving: the firm will match employee fundraising pound for pound up to £250
- Payroll giving: employees can give to a charity of their choice, straight from their gross salary as per the recognised Give As You Earn (GAYE) scheme run by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)
- Volunteering: all employees are entitled to two extra days’ leave to volunteer for a charity or good cause of their choice
From our office-specific charities to the local projects we fund, we are also passionate about letting our people lead the way in our charitable decisions.
For our community
We are committed to creating vibrant, cohesive communities and meeting social need through the Hill Dickinson Foundation. Administered by the Community Foundation, the Hill Dickinson Foundation provides grants to grassroots charities, local organisations and social projects in each of our UK office locations. So far, we have provided funding of over £369,528 via our Foundation. Details of how to apply can be found on the Community Foundation for Merseyside website.
In addition, we are currently supporting the following charities, as chosen by our people, in each of our UK office locations.
- Liverpool – Clatterbridge Cancer Charity
- Manchester – The Christie Charity
- London – Rays of Sunshine
- Leeds - Simon on the Street
- Newcastle - PSP Association
For our planet
We have established a process of continual improvement to reduce our impact on the environment, control resource consumption and continually reduce sources of single use products. As part of this process, when considering matters with an environmental impact, we:
- ensure all activities comply with, or exceed, regulatory controls or codes of practice
- work to conserve natural resources and reduce our impact on the environment through a continual process of monitoring operational and behavioural changes
- ensure facilities are operated in a responsible manner and with due regard to the surrounding community and environment
In addition, and as part of our commitments in this area, we have implemented PaperLite, bike to work and smart working schemes and policies.
